About

Armed only with a passion for music, Gary dipped a tentative toe into the world of DJing in 1997, exploring a plethora of styles including Pop, Indie, Hip Hop, Electro, House and Techno. It wasn't until 2001 that his hand was turned to music production and it would take until 2005 before his music began to resonate amongst his peers in the scene.

Brainchild of Gary and friends, 'The Japanese Popstars' were born in 2006, becoming Gary's sole focus and musical outlet in the eight years that followed.

A constant stream of music ensured an unprecedented rise to prominence for the group, with releases on highly respected labels including Virgin, EMI, Ministry of Sound, Strictly Rhythm, Gung-Ho and Bedrock Records.

Gary was described by fellow members as the 'heart beat' and 'creative force' of the act.

Changing lanes in 2014, Gary's solo project 'Confute' burst on to the scene, garnering instant support from the likes of John Digweed, Maceo Plex, Carlo Lio, James Zabiela, Psycatron, Proxy and Stephan Bodzin. He'd be forgiven for drawing stumps at this point with a supporters list reading like a 'who's who' in underground dance music.

Never one to sit still, Gary Launched Four One Records in 2017 and his desire to evolve, express musical instincts in fresh and innovative ways ensures that each musical helix is as imaginative and effective as the last.

With such a varied discography, his work is instantly recognizable, evoking an undeniable sense of precision and quality from a truly seasoned artist.

Music & MANAGEMENT

Building on years of experience within the music industry, Gary has successfully launched and expertly manages several projects. Confute is the exploration of darker territories in his musical spectrum. Midnight Residents is a collaborative niche project that celebrates the forgotten art of the warm up DJ, with Curntables being a tongue and cheek approach that seamlessly jumps most musical genres.

Label

Four One Records is based on the drive to forge a new audio outlet that will appeal to many electronic music enthusiasts.

Four One Records will never be defined by current hype or trend but by a vision to release unique and non restrictive music spanning across the underground.

Gary Education 1.jpeg
Gary was a facilitator working with the Oh Yeah Music Centre on an urban music development programme. He worked with a number of the most vulnerable young adults in the group, offering them support, critical guidance and advice - investing in those who needed his time most. As a result, those young people who normally would not remain committed to any training course, ended up attending every day and getting so much from the programme. Gary is one of most flexible, experienced and talented facilitators we have been fortunate to work with!

Gary is a facilitator with the One Stop Shop @ Our Space delivering innovative music production and djing workshops as a tool to highlight the importance of mental health and emotional well being to young people.  He has worked with a high number of hard to reach and disenfranchised young people using his skills to break down barriers and promote participation, as well as encouraging the young people to gain new skills.
Gary will go beyond the remit of providing young people with a fun, friendly, safe environment, he also recognises the importance of promoting inclusion and informal learning and the need for collaborative working to make this a success.
